LATEST DESIGN TRENDS
Its time for an update on all things design trends in Canada. We had a scout around what our fellow designers are working and creating including our own projects to see the latest and greatest in interior design trends.
COMFORT IS KEY
After having spent a fair bit of time in our homes in recent years, we still want to maintain that cozy feeling our homes provide. To make us feel relaxed and comfortable.
This means choosing soft fabrics, warm colours, plush furniture, and natural elements.
Bouncle is a type of durable yarn that is making a bit of a comeback in furniture, pillows and throws. This textured material is unique for its nubby surface and is often made with wool, a naturally insulating and warm material.

EVERY COLOUR IS THE NEW BLACK
While neutral tones are still popular, many Canadians are embracing more vibrant and expressive colours in their interiors.
Pantone’s colour of the year for 2024 is apricot crush, a warm and nourishing hue that pairs well with beige, rust, and amber. Other trendy colours include sage green, navy blue, mustard yellow, and coral.
Going along with this, we are seeing less of the all-white kitchens being a trend going into 2024.

SUSTAIN SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is now more important than ever. More and more Canadians are becoming aware of the environmental impact of their choices and opting for eco-friendly and ethical products. This means choosing natural, organic, recycled, or upcycled materials, such as wood, bamboo, cork, hemp, cotton, or wool.
The added advantage is that we are seeing fewer and fewer products featuring volatile organic compounds, which is good for your health when living in your home. We believe in using renewable resources in our building products.
NOW WITH ADDED FUNCTIONALITY
With many of us working from home or spending more time indoors, you need spaces that are versatile and adaptable to your needs. This means choosing furniture that can serve multiple purposes, such as sofa beds, storage ottomans, nesting tables, or foldable desks. Items that can serve their function, and then can be moved or tucked away when not in use.
Given the ever-decreasing living spaces in modern condo homes in Vancouver, it is important to create zones within a room that can be used for different activities, such as working, relaxing, reading, or entertaining.
For example, an adaptable space can have a movable partition that can separate or connect two zones, a modular sofa that can be rearranged into different configurations, or a multifunctional wall that can display art, hold shelves, or hide a TV.
Is it a sofa? Is it a bed? Is it an art display? Is it a desk?
FEEL THAT TEXTURE
Texture is everything. To add interest and depth to their spaces, Canadians are mixing and matching different textures and patterns. This can include combining smooth and rough surfaces, such as marble and concrete, or layering rugs, cushions, blankets, and curtains with different prints and motifs. Geometric shapes, floral prints, animal prints, and abstract art are some of the popular choices for adding visual appeal.
Working with different textures and surfaces creates contrast, which helps with the overall individual theme of any home. Be careful not to overdo anything, you still want it to have cohesiveness. That's where having an interior designer can help guide you to make the right decisions.
